Windows Automatic Update is locked (grayed out) and cannot change update option.
If you come across AU being locked (grayed out) and cannot change update option in Control Panel, follow these steps:
1. Open Registry Editor from RUN command by typing in "regedit" and click OK.
2. From the tree on the left, open to following folders => HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate.
3. Delete "AU" folder. This will delete all previous setting(s) for Automatic Update.
4. Open Automatic Update from Control Panel and change option as normal.
If AU is still grayed out, type in "gpupdate /force" from RUN command and click OK or reboot O/S.
